How May A Marriage Be Ended In Ohio?
A marriage may only be terminated through the court actions of divorce, dissolution, annulment, the death of one of the parties or a presumption of death which is defined as an unexplained continuous absence from the home for a period of seven years.
What Is The Difference Between A Dissolution Of Marriage And A Divorce?
Dissolution essentially means a married couple has agreed to end their marriage and neither party is alleging or asserting that their spouse did anything wrong. The couple will assert that the marriage is ending because of irreconcilable difference or incompatibility. They must also agree on all terms related to child custody, division of property and debts associated with ending the marriage.
Divorce generally occurs when one spouse wants to end the marriage and the other does not or a conflict exists over property or custody. A spouse may file for divorce for a number of reasons including but not limited to:
Mark DeVicchio and the BK&M Domestic Relations team will evaluate and analyze your case and help you determine which course of action to pursue.
Can A Divorce Action Be Converted Into A Dissolution?
Yes. According to the Ohio Revise Code, a divorce action can be converted into the dissolution of marriage action at any time. Again, the legal team at Betras, Kopp, and Harshman can help you decide if your divorce case can be settled via dissolution or mediation.
My Ex-Husband Is Not Paying Child Support. Can I Prohibit His Visitation Right?
No. By law, child support and visitation are separate and distinct issues. Visitation rights are intended to preserve as much of the family environment as possible for the child’s sake. That is why the law does not terminate visitation right to punish a party that is not paying support. In the end the only person “punished would be the child or children involved.

Did you know that with an attorney by your side, you can get a settlement 5X larger than if you didn’t have representation? Accident victims often end up settling their cases on their own or with the help of friends and family, but this is not always the best course of action; without legal representation, some people settle for amounts much smaller than what they are entitled to. At Betras, Kopp & Markota, our lawyers have helped many clients make the best recovery possible.
We understand what you’re going through. No one wants to deal with steep medical bills, pushy insurance adjusters, or chronic pain after an accident. You need assurance that your life will once again be normal. You can’t afford to wait any longer – we’re ready to help! A lawyer with Betras, Kopp & Markota is ready to get you the compensation you deserve.
Continued care for their clients is incredible. Their staff is compassionate and dedicated- from their investigator to the assistants. The attorneys treat you like family. My mistake was not going to them from the beginning. No better in Ohio.
I needed help regarding an accident at work, I was going through a very difficult time due to the injury, and Casey was there for me. Casey was there for me both personally and professionally. Throughout my case, Casey guided me towards the best financial settlement possible all while understanding my individual needs.
I give Casey my highest recommendation possible for his understanding of the case law; as well as, my highest recommendation possible for his interpersonal skills while gently and honestly shepherding me through a very difficult moment in my life.
